- The Express-1 management team

Riding a wave of extraordinary growth, Express-1 was the only area business asked to participate in a Town Meeting with President George W. Bush in Niles, MI, on May 3.
"It was an honor for us to be chosen," says Mike Welch, Express-1 president. "We were very, very excited to participate."
Michigan Congressman Fred Upton mentioned the company's recent growth to President Bush. Then, Bush's reelection committee began to interview businesses, non-profit groups and volunteer organizations in the area to participate in the town meeting. "We were chosen because Express-1 has experienced 70 percent growth this year," says Welch. "As an expedited carrier, we experience economic booms earlier than other business and also see economic downturns earlier. President Bush wanted to know how his tax cuts had effected businesses and get his message for other economic programs to the public."
Welch was able to meet the president and his wife, Laura, briefly before the Town Meeting began. "He was very genuine. He zeroed right in on us and truly listened to what I had to say," says Welch. "It was a great experience me personally and a true honor for Express-1."
